Pages of my 1945 Diary
of my incarceration into a German Prison Camp
during WW2 1944-45.

It is now 27810 days ago that I started writing in this little old diary of mine.
Yes, that is now 76 years and 1 months and 20 days ago.

FEBRUARY 1945: 4 Sunday. Have to go with the whole group to dig trenches.

4 Sunday. Have to go with the whole group to dig trenches. (for the "Wehrmacht" on their retreat from the advancing alleys.). However, it is raining and we are to go back to lager.

5 Monday. Still had something to eat.

6 Tuesday. A ?? visits the Lager. We have to put all our clothing on.

Go again to the kitchen. In the afternoon we have to line up. In the evening we were told that we have to be packed and ready at 7 am the following morning. Possibly we are going to ??.

7 Wednesday. We are on our way to Koln? We travel in a second-class carriage. All the towns and cities we pass are flattened through bombardments.

8 Thursday. We travel through Koln and ?? to ??. The village we arrive at is about 20km from Koln and 30km from the front line. Tomorrow we have to start digging trenches again (again for the "Wehrmacht" to fall back on when retreating!)

9 Friday. In a forest we have to chop trees down for camouflage for the trenches. We are attacked by Spitfires with their machine guns and bombs.

10 Saturday. Again to the forest and again we are attacked, whilst working and whilst marching back to our sleeping quarters. In afternoon to village to try to get food.
